Mattress & bulky item disposal in Phoenix, AZ
Phoenix collects bulk trash by appointment only (up to four times a year), and residents with City trash service can drop off one load of up to one ton per month free at two transfer stations.
Bulk trash pickup (appointment only)
- Schedule online at phoenix.gov/bulktrash or call 602-262-6251. Appointments must be made at least 3 business days ahead and can be booked up to a year out.
- Customers get four collection opportunities per year.
- Do not set items out more than 7 days before your appointment (a city ordinance violation). Have them out by 5:30 a.m. on the scheduled date.
- One pile, no larger than 10 cubic yards, within 5 feet of the street/curb and at least 5 feet from fixed objects.
- The scheduler blocks Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day plus the 7 days after each.
Mattresses: check before you schedule
- The City's bulk trash page lists furniture, small appliances and toilets as typical bulk trash but does not mention mattresses.
- Phoenix City Code Sec. 27-22(I) lists "all mattresses or furniture" among items not acceptable for normal residential collection.
- Because these two official sources don't line up, call 602-262-6251 to confirm before putting a mattress out, or use a transfer station (below).
Free monthly transfer station drop-off
- Residential customers paying full-service trash fees can drop off one load of up to 1 ton per calendar month at no charge. Bring your City services (water) bill and matching photo ID.
- Over 1 ton: $55 per ton. Uncovered/unsecured loads: $20 fee.
- Hours: Mon to Fri 5:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sat 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.; closed Sundays and listed holidays.
- 27th Avenue Transfer Station: 3060 S. 27th Ave., Phoenix 85009
- North Gateway Transfer Station: 30205 N. Black Canyon Hwy., Phoenix 85085
